Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)

Recently I have invested in Low Level Laser (Light) Therapy (LLLT) class 3B equipment and added this to the list of treatments that I am able to offer to both Equine and Human clients.

LLLT offers a drug free alternative to reducing inflammation, speeding up healing times and improving the quality of new tissue repair as well as providing an analgesic (pain killing) effect.

There are different treatment protocols to follow for different conditions. I can work with your vet to agree a treatment plan for things such as tendon repair rehab. Often treatment involves daily sessions initially followed by 3 times per week until healing is complete. (Packages are available for this service).

I am also able to use the laser as part of my regular treatments. The single laser probe allows me to treat deep into the muscle tissue to deactivate trigger points where the muscle is in spasm, similar to acupuncture but without the need to pierce the skin.

Signs your horse may be in discomfort

Dr. Sue Dyson et al. have produced an in-depth study of 24 pain behaviours of the ridden horse. It is a definitive list of how ridden horses display pain behaviors and provides a useful assessment tool.

Information about the findings and how to use the Ridden Horse Pain Ethogram can be found here; https://www.24horsebehaviors.org/field-guide

It is important to note that it is not just ridden horses that display discomfort, I treat a large number of horses who are not in ridden work including many older and retired horses as well as youngsters who are growing and developing.
